Security support for Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (woody) to end soon

This has already been announced upon the Debian website, but it is worth repeating here for people still using Debians old-stable release, codenamed Woody. Security support for Woody is due to cease at the end of June 2006.
Quoting from the announcement:
More than one year after the release of Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 alias 'sarge' and nearly four years after the release of Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 alias 'woody' the security support for the old distribution (3.0 alias 'woody') is coming to an end next month.
The Debian project is proud to be able to support its old distribution for such a long time and even for one year after a new version has been released.
If you still have machines running Woody now is a perfect time to upgrade.
There have been some older articles on this site covering some of the significant changes which were introduced between Woody and Sarge:

I'm sure that you will still be able to find support for Woody from external sources, but upgrading will be useful and most likely simple for standard installations.

I'm not disputing the existence of debian-announce, nor the fact that the end of Woody security support was mentioned on debian-announce. I just don't think that many Debian admins read debian-announce, but many do read debian-security-announce. So unless they hear about it through some informal mechanism, they won't hear about it at all.

If you don't care not receiving the official announcements about the end of a Debian version ... it's your choice!

Status messages like this have never been posted to debian-security-announce, which I agree is where many people might expect to hear about such news..
I think there is just a general thought that d-s-a is only for issuing copies of security advisories.
There has been mention of it on the debian-security mailing list though, which is the second-most obvious place for announcements to arrive.

I have a really old Pentium 100 running Woody, used as a router+firewall+bridge (YES I will replace it with at least a Gigabit Ethernet switch). I doubt this will run Sarge. Adding more RAM might help, but it doesn't make sense.
Maybe I should take the oldest of my desktops (Athlon 1.4) and turn it into the new router+firewall... that will force me to buy a new computer... who said Linux lowered costs? ;)

Because it lacks memory: it only has 32 megs. I tried adding a little more, and it slows down the system, because of the COAST module that only caches the first 32MB. Ugly.

To make use of our old PC is one of the key point for runing old version Linux.
I still have a Dell notebook with 48MB RAM and P180 CPU.
I used it to run Debian Sarge as a Boardband gateway and Iptable firewall and HlyFax server. But the RAM is not enough to do it well, I mean it work but slow when eveyone trying to download a large size file by BitTorrent. The Iptable will always report Buffer full and drop the packet.
I changed it to Woody. It did a good job.
I have another notebook with 32MB RAM and P120 MMX CPU.
I want to run a Linux Xwindow Desktop with brower and simple word processor.
Which Liunx Dist can do the job with only 32MRAM ?
I remember that Redhat 5.2 and 6.0 may run on such small RAM.
Can Debian 2.2 run Xwindows and application on 32MRAM with P120 CPU ?
I don't think Woody will do.

Gnome and KDE are not an option in such hardware, both are too slow, sorry. IceWM is great, anyway.
I bought a new desktop machine so the P100 is no longer a desktop machine. Now it's a bridge, router, file server with 40Gb capacity, webserver, and firewall+dialup-server with Web interface (really pretty)
In the same machine I tried RedHat 6.0 and SuSE 7.0 and both were INCREDIBLY slow, Woody does a much better
I'll stick with Debian 3.0 even if the security updates are discontinued, until I turn my secondary desktop (Athlon 1.4) in the new router/server/etc.
